Desk copies are provided by the publisher or distributor either on loan for review, or as a complimentary resource when a text is adopted. The bookstore does not order or provide desk copies for instructors.
If an instructor requires a desk copy, the program associate or the instructor can make a request directly with the publisher. Larger companies like Nelson make the process very easy by providing a "request a copy" button on the textbook information page that will populate a form with the book title and ISBN for you. They will also request additional information such as the instructor's office hours, the date the adoption decision was finalized, the names of the people involved in the adoption decision, and the other titles in use. You can arrange to have the books shipped directly to the instructor if they aren't on campus.
For companies without this feature, we suggest searching out the contact information page on their website which may contain desk copy information. If you require assistance finding information on publishers, please contact Colleen at colleen.mcgonigal@royalroads.ca .
In some cases, desk copies are not available. We can arrange an internal transfer in which the Program Office pays the Bookstore the cost price of the text. Please have the program associate or budget holder contact the bookstore staff to make those arrangements.
