Share your voice (Library & Writing Centre orientation, Stage 4)

Orientation for students in the final stages of their program, such as the final course or writing the capstone, thesis, or dissertation.

Publishing considerations

Photograph of a loon flapping it's wings in green waterIf you're completing a thesis or dissertation as your final project, your work will be published in VIURRSpace, RRU's institutional repository. The Library assists students with publishing their theses and dissertations through ProQuest, Library and Archives Canada, and VIURRSpace. To learn more, please visit VIURRSpace Guidelines

However, a thesis or major project that doesn't have to be the end of your publishing journey. You may also consider submitting some of your work for publication to share with members of your field of study, the academic community, and other interested readers.

There are several reasons to share your research:

  • connect with researchers within the same research area(s)
  • engage as an active member in the ongoing conversations that are taking place in your field
  • increase your profile amongst your community
  • find potential research collaborators or employer
  • build a reputation in your area
  • inform the general public about your research
  • discover the latest in your industry or research area
  • receive feedback from others – may lead to new directions/ideas

The Library can offer advice and guidance on publishing your work, from choosing a journal to how to prepare your manuscript for submission. Visit the Publish Your Research guide for more information.
