Searching for scholarly literature

You'll often need to search for literature- or "scholarly materials", or "scholarly literature" for your assignments. Any of these terms refers to the vast array of information- articles, books, statistics, market reports, government documents, and more. Searching for literature will help you to:

  • build a foundation of knowledge on your topic or in your field.
  • gain an understanding of the research and debates relevant to the field or area of study.
  • trace the "gap" (or, where there does not seem to be relevant research) in the field.

This section will introduce you to a few places to search for literature, including Discovery (the library's main search portal), specific library databases, and Google Scholar.
