Open access publishing

Open access is a publishing model that aims to reduce barriers to access to research. Learn about your options and opportunities as an author.

Self-archive your research in VIURRSpace

The Libraries of Royal Roads University and Vancouver Island University collaboratively offer VIURRSpace, a digital repository to preserve and showcase selected scholarly and creative works of the universities, together with special collections that represent the unique character of the region.

Creating a VIURRSpace profile and making your work available in VIURRSpace will benefit you in a number of ways, including:

  • Increased visibility of your publications

Work deposited in VIURRSpace is also discoverable through Google Scholar and Google, in the Library collection, and through regional and national discovery tools including The West Beyond the West and the Canadiana Discovery Portal.

  • Open Access publication of your work

Unlike commercial and membership-based networks for exchanging scholarship, such as Academia.edu and ResearchGate, VIURRSpace is truly open access. Depositing your work in VIURRSpace can fulfill Tri-Council and other funding agency requirements to share outcomes of grant-funded research.

  • Digital preservation services

Beyond back up, the Library engages in preservation activities to ensure protection from loss and damage, and long-term access to digital content that is included in VIURRSpace. You will also have a stable, permanent link to your bibliography and to each item, allowing you to share your work easily and reliably.

If you are interested in having your work represented in VIURRSpace, please contact the RRU Library.
