Permission-free alternatives

All original works (e.g scholarly, musical/artistic, literary, dramatic, etc.) are generally protected by copyright. If you are not certain as to a work's copyright status, assume a work is protected by copyright.

However, in addition to the fair dealing exception (see the RRU Copyright Office fair dealing guidelines)  there are several useful alternatives to using materials protected by copyright, such as:

• Creative commons
• Public domain
